This course is intended for students majoring in engineering who need basic understanding of the engineering fundamentals. It is a compulsory course for first-year undergraduate students in Fan Gongxiu Honors College. This course is a beginner course that brings students into engineering field as a basis for understanding the engineering essentials, ubiquitous units, scrupulous worksheets and punctilious programming. It lays a foundation for further studies in engineering fields, and other engineering courses.
The course covered in this semester introduces the three threads of engineering essentials, dimensions (what these are and how to use them to analyze engineering situations), as well as effective tools to solve engineering problems, such as Excel worksheets and MATLAB Programming, etc. A cornerstone project will also be introduced to each student team along the line. Students are expected to have a good understanding of engineering fundamentals, an effective application of computer tools, and a complete methodology for engineering design and solutions.
